For those of you that like historic photos of Chicago, the Art Institute of Chicago is having an exhibit with photos from the Ryerson Library’s archive of large platinum prints made by C. D. Arnold, the official photographer of the 1893 World’s Columbian Exposition (Chicago World’s Fair).

Vivian Maier's street photography

Vivian Maier’s street photography has been rediscovered by John Maloof when he bought a box full of 30-40,000 medium format black and white negatives at an auction. Her work, spanning about 30 years and dating back to the 50’s, shows a beautiful and classic Chicago full of lively and sometimes gritty characters. Vivian clearly had incredible talent with a sharp eye and seemingly quick finger on the shutter. With several hundred rolls left to develop, John has his work cut out for him, but the product has been simply beautiful! Follow the photoblog that John has set up to display her work. It is truly inspiring.
